A visit to the new State of the Art Royal Papworth Hospital to view the construction progress to date on this very complex scheme which is one of the largest NHS developments currently being undertaken.
This project has been in construction for some 2 years and is due to complete mid 2018. The building is complex with 310 No single [ICU standard bedrooms], 5 No operating theatres, 2 No hybrid theatres and 5 No cath labs.
With over 2000 rooms this 40,000m² complex is situated on six floors plus a complete interstitial plantroom floor. It is designed around two main atriums witha complex internal configuration and rooms with faceted walls and acute angles, to give its distinctive oval shape.
The entire construction site is a green workplace, featuring environmentally compatible solutions for amenities such as transportation and waste management. Papworth is designed to achieve an EPC ‘B’ energy rating – the first hospital in the UK to do so.
The pioneering techniques at the Hospital have been recognised by the Queen and once open it will become the ‘Royal Papworth Hospital’
