| ‘New Works at Downing College’ |
The College has recently completed various works. Our meeting will start in the new Howard Theatre with a presentation of the design of this building by Francis Terry and Roger Barrell of the architects Quinlan and Francis Terry. Following this will be a presentation of the works to the Dining Hall and Senior Combination Rooms by Tim Collett project architect from Caruso St John. We will then visit this area and conclude with our usual glass of wine and networking. Please note the start time. There is no parking on site but the Grand Arcade Car Park is nearby (evening rates start at 5.00 pm) and the few adjacent street parking meters finish at 7.00 pm.

‘Building Schools for the Future’ |
Despite Government cutbacks the Cambridgeshire tranche of the BSF programme has survived. Allan Kippax of Cambridgeshire County Council, Andy Barrett of Equitex LEP and Kevin Myers of R H Partnership will give a presentation of what is happening and where. |

| ‘Code 4,5,6 Housing: theory v practice’ |
Just what is the difference between the requirements of these new codes being introduced by Government and how will this affect the design of housing. We will have presentations by architects and developers to point up the theory and the practical issues and implications.

| ‘The Construction Industry – life after the CSR’ |
Government will, by the time of the meeting have published the Comprehensive Spending Review and we will be in a position to see what the effects on our industry will be. We will have speakers who will explain what it all means and which of the definitions of ‘the contracting industry’ will really apply. |

| ‘The Annual Carol Concert’ |
The Choir of Robinson College will lead and inspire in a programme of seasonal music and carols for an early Christmas event. As usual, members and their guests will be invited to stay for wine and mince pies after the concert. Children are particularly welcome. |

The CFCI Book ‘Cambridge Architecture Post 1945’ is
now available online at www.cambridgemodernarchitecture.org.uk.
Initially, the book has been published in Adobe PDF
format. A new, interactive version with updated content
will be
launching
in the future. |

| The CFCI Charitable Trust |
The Trustees encourage applications for grants from the
Trust. The objects of the Trust are:
(a) to advance education
learning and understanding in the field of the built
environment
(b) the award of grants, bursaries, scholarships
or provision of other financial assistance in support
of education,
learning or understanding in the field of built environment
(c)
for the public benefit, particularly but not exclusively
in the area of the City of Cambridge,
to promote and
support high standards in planning design architecture
or other
aspect of the built environment, by such means
as are exclusively charitable
Members of CFCI are invited
to suggest projects or other causes worthy of support
and to inform
either
the Chairman
of the Trust, Mr Christopher Pratt, (

or the Secretary of CFCI (), who will
forward suggestions. |
