‘Landscaping of the Olympic Park’

Phil Askew, Assistant Project Sponsor Parklands and Public Realm of the Olympic Delivery Authority will give a presentation on the design and execution of the Olympic Park, i.e. all the many hectares of space between, and giving the setting to, the landmark buildings.

‘The University of Cambridge North West Cambridge Development’

Roger Taylor, Project Director for this development will present the University's overall outline planning application. He will also include some thoughts on what the Phase 1 proposals might include. He will be accompanied by Jonathan Rose, principal in the Urban Development Studio at AECOM Design and Planning.

‘Tall Buildings in Cambridge’

Glen Richardson Head of Joint Urban Design Team, Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council will present the Council’s emerging planning guidance on Tall Buildings. This has been formulated following debates and workshops with Cambridge Past Present + Future and the Cambridge Association of Architects.

‘Retrofit and the Green Deal’

The Government has set targets to reduce greenhouse gases by 34% by 2030 and 80% by 2050. It has established the ‘Green Deal’ to set a programme to bring the 85% of existing buildings that are estimated to be still in use by 2050, up to date. The meeting looks at ways of retrofitting the existing building stock to achieve these targets. Speakers will include Andy Brown from Cambridge Architectural Research who founded the ‘Cambridge Carbon Footprint’, a voluntary organisation disseminating the climate change message and empowering local communities to take positive action on the issue. Andy will look at the options for residential and historic buildings. Other speakers will look at the Government’s objectives and what can be done to satisfy the targets for the energy performance of non-residential buildings.

Monday 21st November at 6.30 pm in the Gillespie Centre, Memorial Court, Clare College, Queen’s Road

‘The Annual Carol Concert’ The Choir of Robinson College will lead and inspire in a programme of seasonal music and carols for an early Christmas event. As usual, members and their guests will be invited to stay for wine and mince pies after the concert. Children are particularly welcome. Sunday 4th December at 5.00pm in the Chapel, Robinson College, Grange Road

CFCI Book Online

The CFCI Book ‘Cambridge Architecture Post 1945’ is now available online at www.cambridgemodernarchitecture.org.uk.

Initially, the book has been published in Adobe PDF format. A new, interactive version with updated content will be launching in the future.

 

The CFCI Charitable Trust

The Trustees encourage applications for grants from the Trust. The objects of the Trust are:

(a) to advance education learning and understanding in the field of the built environment

(b) the award of grants, bursaries, scholarships or provision of other financial assistance in support of education, learning or understanding in the field of built environment

(c) for the public benefit, particularly but not exclusively in the area of the City of Cambridge, to promote and support high standards in planning design architecture or other aspect of the built environment, by such means as are exclusively charitable

Members of CFCI are invited to suggest projects or other causes worthy of support and to inform either the Chairman of the Trust, Mr Christopher Pratt, ( ) or the Secretary of CFCI (), who will forward suggestions.
