‘Future Plans for Stansted’
|
Stewart Wingate the Managing Director of Stansted
will give a presentation on the future plans for London
Stansted Airport. Topics will include the Generation
2 scheme which is the second runway and the growth in
passenger volume from 24 million per annum to 35 million
per annum.
Members are asked to go to the Group Head Office which
is the striking white 1930’s building behind a lawn
and flagpole on the south side of Newmarket Road. The is
ample parking in front of the building. Go to the front
door and ring the bell for Jonathan Barker/Steve Sillery
where you will be escorted to the conference room.
Under
no circumstances go to Works Reception (Security Gate
No.1) unless you wish to tangle with the security men.

Physics of Medicine |
This research laboratory is situated on the University
West Cambridge site between Computer Sciences and the Cavendish
Laboratory. Concept Architecture is by BDP. The Main Contractor
Wilmott Dixon and their project architects R H Partnership
will host the visit. |

Ridgeons Timber Processing Plant, Herringswell, Suffolk |
Ridgeons have recently installed a new timber processing
plant at their facility in Herringswell. The tour will
include a briefing on the processes involved, seeing the
plant in operation and conclude with refreshments. I will
send details of location etc to those who book places. |

The meeting will be all about structural engineering.
We have arranged for Ramboll Whitby Bird, Hannah
Reed, Scott Wilson and Peter Dann to give presentations on
particularly noteworthy projects they are currently working
on in the UK and overseas.

in 1991 and has an impressive list of projects which can

in the United Kingdom and internationally and currently
have a project in Cambridge. |

| ‘Chairman’s Garden Party’ |
There will be the chance for tours
of the gardens with the Head Gardener Andrew Myson and
the new student residential buildings designed by RH Partnership.
Come and enjoy sparkling wine and strawberries on hopefully
a perfect mid-Summer’s evening in a quintessentially
English setting. Admission will be strictly by ticket only
(£10 each for members and guests) |

| ‘Future Workload’ |
So where is our future work coming from and is there
sufficient professional and skilled labour to carry it
out? Construction output in the East of England is forecast
to grow at an annual average rate of 2.3% between 2008
and 2012. Sandra Lilley of Construction Skills Network
will be giving a presentation on where this growth will
occur, in what sector and what that means in terms of skills
shortage. |
