Archaeological Visit - Round Church Street Development for Trinity College & Cambridge Union

Trinity College have appointed Morgan Sindall to demolish existing outbuildings facing Round Church and Park Street to construct a 6 storey building, which includes a basement service area, ground floor retail space with four floors of student accommodation above.  The Cambridge Union project is to replace the 1930’s rendered façade to match the original and construct a new entrance / link building between that building and the new Trinity Building.

The basement is sheet piled with an RC capping beam cast onto the sheet piling, and once this is complete and the basement shoring is installed, the Cambridge Archaeological Unit start their excavation in earnest on 8 July for up to 12 weeks so will be in the middle of their works on 19 August – this is a rare opportunity to see a live dig in operation.  Please be there for a 4.00pm start and bring PPE if you have it.
