The latest report from the IPCC is more urgent than ever. The UK Green Building Council says that only with urgent measures and government intervention can we achieve the required 78% cut in emissions by 2035. The new Draft Greater Cambridge Local Plan suggests a seismic shift in ambition, with Net Zero Carbon buildings a requirement. A growing body of projects show that this is achievable on individual projects. On the other hand, questions are being raised about the rapid growth of our region, which is stretching our infrastructure to the limit or beyond. Is this compatible with the Zero-Carbon agenda? What effect will the need for more power, water, and transport movement have on overall emissions? How and where will the required offset be managed?
