CFCI Young Ambassadors are excited to be organising a construction site visit to the Lucy Cavendish College project on Madingley Road – currently being built by SDC.
This will be a great opportunity to attend an in-person site visit to see this complex new College accommodation building with an integral café and teaching space. This has been designed with the fundamental drivers of sustainability, wellbeing and quality placemaking in mind and it sets a new benchmark for inclusive design and environmental sustainability as part of the College’s vision for the future.
The design of the building complements the surrounding College buildings and conservation area through the use of pitched roofs and dormers, red brickwork, plain tiles and timber cladding. The building, designed to the Passivhaus ‘Classic’ standard is currently on-site, due to complete in Summer 2022. The East wing primary CLT (cross laminated timber) superstructure is complete and work on services installation and façade construction is underway, whilst the West wing structure is still under construction. This is a good chance to see the process of CLT installation, Passivhaus detailing and internal works being done.
The visit will consist of a walk around the new building followed by a brief presentation from the architects (R H Partnership), structural engineers (Smith and Wallwork), M&E engineers (Munro) and the Passivhaus consultants (Max Fordham).
Tickets are limited so will be on a first come, first served basis.
Attendants will be required to provide their own PPE – 5 point is required by the site policy and you will need to wear it at all times.
