The project involves the comprehensive refurbishment of the Grade I listed external envelope, improvements to specific rooms to meet current safety standards, the provision of an accessible lift, a new means of escape from third floor of the North Range and a new extension, constructed from an oak glulam structure between two existing garden walls in the North passage.
The conservation, repair and refurbishment of Old Court will deliver wheelchair access to important shared rooms on the first floor of the North Range. In addition, student rooms, shared facilities and catering spaces will be improved to meet contemporary standards. The works will provide an additional buttery – the ‘River Room’ – to help accommodate the growing student community. A new plant room and services will significantly improve environmental sustainability.
