Evolution of the College Court – Walking Tour – SOLD OUT

May 15, 2024 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

St John's College Great Gate (Trinity Street entrance)

The CFCI are delighted to offer members the chance to enjoy a Spring evening with a tour showcasing the evolution of the College Court.

Of all the forces that have shaped modern and contemporary architecture in Cambridge colleges, none is as significant as the traditional quadrangle. From the 1950s onwards, when architects were tasked with building entirely new colleges as well as siting new buildings within existing ones, the quad remained a fixed point that could be copied, changed or resisted. From St John’s College to Murray Edwards, this tour seeks to chart that development and explore a range of examples that sought to respond to the collegiate court in a new way, often with added modernist ideas, new kinds of social aspiration and in new materials.

The tour will be lead by Jon Wright & Sally Humphries from Purcell

Tickets are limited to two per Company due to the popularity of the event
