St John’s College, Grange Lane – Site Visit SOLD OUT

November 22, 2023 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Grange Lane, Cambridge

CFCI Young Ambassadors are pleased to offer Members the opportunity to visit Grange Lane, a development which maximises the opportunity of a large, edge of City site to create a new low energy, Passivhaus, student neighbourhood.

The accommodation will be used by both St John’s College and leased to neighbouring Colleges. It employs a flexible townhouse typology that can be leased in various configurations to ensure the accommodation can naturally adapt to changing needs over time.

The central lane embeds the neighbourhood within West Cambridge, connecting existing roads and creating new pedestrian and cycle routes that ensure students have easy access to amenities. Accessed off the lane are generous gardens around which the townhouses are clustered in terraces.

Externally the townhouses are designed to sit comfortably within the West Cambridge Conservation Area, using timeless materials such as red brick, clay tile and reconstituted stone to create buildings that age gracefully and improve with time.

The visit will consist of a short talk by the design team (Allies and Morrison, Smith and Wallwork, Max Fordham and Munro Building Services) and guided tour facilitated by Cocksedge Construction.

Tickets are limited so will be on a first come, first served basis.

Attendants will be required to provide their own PPE (Boots, Hard Hats, Hi Vis and Gloves)

Meeting point: Please meet at the site entrance, in the Cambridge University Athletics Track Car Park, 11 Adams Road CB3 9AD. There is no car parking on site but there is free parking on Wilberforce Road plus other paid parking in the area.
