2020/2021 has been a challenging year for all of us, including for those working in the construction industry. We are pleased to celebrate and showcase the design and construction skills, craftsmanship and engineering which have continued through this period and contributed to the built environment of our City.
Due to the pandemic restrictions, the judging was undertaken as a virtual examination of the buildings submitted for the awards. The judges would like to thank all the teams who submitted entries in 2020/2021. Next year we hope to undertake site visits to all shortlisted schemes and to consider the buildings in greater detail.
The judging criteria for 2020/2021 included the context and the brief for the building; the design solution adopted; the quality and difficulty of the construction and craftsmanship displayed in the building. Accessibility and the creation of an inclusive environment are also key considerations. Each scheme is expected to address environmental concerns including energy performance and, where possible, the schemes are expected to make a contribution to the natural environment both on the building and in the landscape around the building.
