David Mackay Award for Engineering and Sustainability
For this final award, unusually, and perhaps a reflection of the increasingly mainstream character of sustainability, we have no less than four highly commended projects as well as an overall winner. Each of the commendations are of a particular aspect as follows:
Highly commended for engineering solutions in a tightly constrained site: Vinery Road

Vinery Road Office
This highly sustainable, adaptive reuse and conversion of a warehouse into an office in a restricted residential site, enclosed by terraced housing and private gardens, involved the innovative use of natural materials and expressed structural steelwork.

Judges citation:
“We recognise that adaptations of existing buildings are far more complex than new build when it comes to sustainability, and we praise Vinery Road for its ambitious goals and determination to create a modern, attractive, ‘green’ office in a tightly constrained industrial site, and for excellent neighbour engagement.”
