Judges citation:
“In recent years we have seen a number of new neighbourhoods commissioned by Cambridge City Council to provide affordable homes for its tenants, and they get better and better. We particularly welcome the precedent these set for the creative remodelling of existing urban areas, a crucial skill we all need to learn. This project replaces a poor quality block of 36 flats with 70 new one, two and three bedroom apartments and a communal garden. The brick exterior follows the recently agreed Design Code for north Cambridge, and we commend its quality. The design is based on an all-electric ‘Cambridge variant’ of Passivhaus standards, which we hope will ultimately fully coalesce with Passivhaus.”
