“Orchard Park, was originally planned to be a hotel/gym and parking, but has happily been repurposed for 75 affordable flats, arranged in three blocks to make best use of the site and connect to nearby Marmalade Lane, a former winner here.  No gas is used on the site, relying instead on air source heat pumps and PVs, with an underground collection for waste.  Community facilities are shared with Marmalade Lane and there is a car share scheme.  The design is successful, with a clever choice of brickwork and pointing, and we felt it was a place where people would be proud to live.  We noted however that some flats are only single aspect, and that residents appear to want to enclose their balconies.”
