The whole of Eastern England is already classified as ‘seriously water stressed’ by the Environment Agency. Water could be the biggest influence on the speed of delivery of the next Greater Cambridge Local Plan, delaying planning permissions and the delivery of homes and commercial buildings into the 2030s.
In November Water Resources East launched their public consultation, on the Draft regional water resources plan for Eastern England. This is the first in the series of CFCI presentations on water. It will set the scene of issues surrounding water supply and timetable for interventions, including investment into large scale strategic infrastructure such as new reservoirs and a pipeline from Lincolnshire.
These big projects cannot be delivered until 2030s at the earliest and therefore in the short term the plan is also proposing ways to reduce water demand which will also have implications for buildings across the City before more water can be supplied to the region.
Come and listen to the presentation and submit your thoughts to the draft plan.
